The Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (YSTE) has been Ireland’s most celebrated platform for youth engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for over six decades. Each January, thousands of secondary school students submit projects across five categories, culminating in a four‑day showcase at the RDS in Dublin. Projects are judged by experts and celebrated by educators, policymakers, and industry leaders. For many participants, the exhibition is transformative—building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills while opening doors to future opportunities.

Since its founding in 2005, Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition Ltd (YSTE Ltd) has overseen and governed this national institution, ensuring it continues to grow and thrive while safeguarding its legacy for the future.

The Board of YSTE Ltd

At the centre of YSTE Ltd (Charity No. 20059613) is its Board of Directors, entrusted with stewarding the charity’s mission and providing strategic leadership. The Board safeguards the independence of the exhibition, upholds best practice in governance, and defines the vision for its future. Responsibilities of the Board:

• Strategic direction: Defining long‑term goals and ensuring sustainability.
• Governance: Embedding best practice standards across all aspects of the organisation.
• Operational oversight: Managing the entry system and judging processes, ensuring fairness, transparency, and the highest standards of evaluation.
• Partnerships: Leading relationships with sponsors, including Stripe, to strengthen the exhibition’s long‑term impact.
• Legacy stewardship: Preserving the spirit of the Young Scientist idea and celebrating alumni achievements across six decades.
• Global vision: Reimagining the future of the exhibition both nationally and internationally, positioning YSTE as a global leader in youth engagement with science and technology.

Partnerships and International Reach

In 2025, YSTE Ltd entered an exciting new chapter when Stripe became the exhibition’s title sponsor, succeeding BT Ireland’s 25‑year custodianship. Stripe’s five‑year commitment reflects the enduring impact of the exhibition, particularly as its founders, Patrick (winner in 2005) and John Collison, are themselves former participants. This partnership ensures that the exhibition remains a world‑class platform for youth innovation, while continuing to inspire the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs.

YSTE Ltd’s remit also extends beyond Ireland. In collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the charity has supported the launch of highly successful Young Scientist programmes in Kenya (2018) and Jordan (2022). These initiatives demonstrate Ireland’s leadership in promoting STEM education internationally and highlight the exhibition’s role as a catalyst for global collaboration.
